The GLA:D Program

The GLA:D programs’ aim is to improve the function and daily life of individuals with hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA) through the use of education and exercise.  Recent evidence has changed our view of OA.  The recommendations for treatment of OA no longer include rest but instead guided exercise and physical activity.  The specific neuromuscular exercises used in the program are specifically designed to transfer to daily, functional activities.

The program was developed in Denmark through an extensive evidence based study which displayed participants reported positive outcomes including less pain, decreased use of painkillers and increased physical activity.

GLA:D Alberta is a collaboration by AHS, the Bone & Joint Health SCN, Bone and Joint Canada, the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation, the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute, and The Arthritis Society.
